Why Have a Website?
It’s been a long cold winter and it’s the first day of spring. The air is crisp, the sky a crystal blue. You’re feeling your spirit rise and the breath of air fills your lungs with the joy and feeling of fresh new beginnings.
You look around your home, you peer into your garden and you see them weathered from the winter but ready to spring into a new season with you, a new beginning. Its time for you to make changes and bring your home into order, clean and crisp as the new spring and feeling of opportunity that falls upon your world.
At first it seems like a daunting task, to clean the house, remove all the things you don’t need anymore and most importantly clear away the cold past that was winter. Wanting this done fast so you can enjoy spring and the summer to come you want to find people who can help and do it more efficiently, faster and less expensive than if you were to do it yourself.
15 years ago before the internet was known, you would have looked in the yellow pages and telephoned cleaners, gardeners and property maintenance businesses finding out what they could do and how much it would cost. Your decision would come down to the price they gave, and what you found out they could do and even the tone and care in their voice would either persuade you or have you politely hanging up.
15 years later and the world is very different. It’s another spring and your home needs maintenance, your garden attention, and you know you would prefer to have people help you get it done faster and more efficiently so you can spend your time enjoying spring and the summer to come. Like many people the first thing you will do is search the internet and search the yellow pages online. You may even instant message a friend and ask who they have used. Many will twitter their feelings or blog how much spring is on their mind and how they plan to get their world in order. Just as quickly they will write about who do a great job and link to the website. The internet has become central to our life: one of the first places we seek answers and the most likely to convince us. Read More…..

Keywords Basics: What are they and what do I do with them?
You’ll hear the term “keywords” used a lot on this site. If you don’t understand the meaning then you could spend a lot of time feeling like you’ve missed something important.
Because your keywords are the basis of everything you’ll do online.
This part is worth repeating: Your keywords are the basis of everything you’ll do online. Once you know what keywords bring you the most (and best) site visitors, you’ll create ads around those keywords, send out emails on topics related to those keywords, write blog posts and articles that discuss those keywords, and create videos, special reports, and books centered around those keywords.
Quite simply, they are the words that describe your web site so customers can find you. To put it another way, key words are the words that your potential customers would use to describe what they need from you.
An example:
In the real estate investing world, one of the ways you might find people who want to sell their property is to find people in foreclosure. I’ll use this example a lot because it’s something I have experience in, but this applies to any business. Some possible key words for an investing business would be:
- stop foreclosure
- stop home foreclosure
- stop foreclosure now
- avoid foreclosure
- foreclosure prevention
- help stop foreclosure
These are phrases that someone in foreclosure might type into a search engine to find help.
Notice that many of these key word phrases are very similar (”stop foreclosure” vs. “stop home foreclosure”), but if you were to type in each of those phrases in a search engine a whole different set of sites will pop up for each one. On the internet each different group of key words is it’s own little world.
So let’s say that you’ve come up with some key words that describe your business (if you’re having any trouble with this, you can see what key words your competitors are using–see tutorials below).
What do you do with these key words?
Using the key words you choose, you will:
- Choose a web site address with your key words in them
- Create ad campaigns using your key words
- Write emails, blog posts, and articles based on key words
- Optimize your web site for certain key words
Read the articles below for detail on how you’ll use key words in different situations. For the purpose of this tutorial, however, if you understand that “key words” are very simply the words and phrases that describe what you offer and that potential customers will use to find you online, then you’re ready to get into the details.

Good Design
![]()
One of the elements of good web design is a lack of the elements that make bad web design. If you stay away from everything listed on the article below about dorky web pages, you’ve probably got a pretty nice web site. In addition, keep these concepts in mind:
- Text
- Background does not interrupt the text
- Text is big enough to read, but not too big
- The hierarchy of information is perfectly clear
- Columns of text are narrower than in a book to make reading easier on the screen
- Navigation
- Navigation buttons and bars are easy to understand and use
- Navigation is consistent throughout web site
- Navigation buttons and bars provide the visitor with a clue as to where they are, what page of the site they are currently on Frames, if used, are not obtrusive
- A large site has an index or site map
- Links
- Link colors coordinate with page colors
- Links are underlined so they are instantly clear to the visitor
- Graphics
- Buttons are not big and dorky
- Every graphic has an alt label
- Every graphic link has a matching text link
- Graphics and backgrounds use browser-safe colors
- Animated graphics turn off by themselves
- General Design
- Pages download quickly
- First page and home page fit into 800 x 600 pixel space
- All of the other pages have the immediate visual impact within 800 x 600 pixels
- Good use of graphic elements (photos, subheads, pull quotes) to break up large areas of text
- Every web page in the site looks like it belongs to the same site; there are repetitive elements that carry throughout the pages

Keywords are Important!
It is so important to be at the top of the search engines if you are a business with a website. How do you do that? Well you can submit your site to the search engines, get friends to put your link on their facebooks, websites, twitter accounts and more. Reciprocal link with other sites. If another site is high on the search engines then the web crawlers will find your link and search it too! So get those reciprocal links going. Another way to get a high ranking on your website is through Meta Data or Meta Tags. These are Keywords put in the code of your pages that alert the web crawlers to the content of your site. These keywords are what your customers/clients will type in the search engines looking for your product or service. You want your customers to find you, so get started on that LONG list of keywords that have everything to do with your business.
Here is a great article on Keywords. Don’t want to read the article? Contact ADOTCO for making sure that your keywords are on your site and doing their job!
